Test Cell Room Layout
All of our dyno test cells are designed to allow for ample work and engine installation space. The exhaust ducting is large enough to allow for full vehicle exhaust installation. The ventilation system is design to allow for a significant number of air room changes to keep proper control of air temperature inside the test cell, this is especially important for durability testing. In order to minimize any room air effects, the room depression is maintained at a constant value by a closed loop system controlling the exhaust fans.
Data Acquisition System
The data acquisition systems consist of SuperFlow New Generation Electronics system with the following specifications and features for each test cell:
• Inside the cell sensor box: Provides ease of connection for sensors and more reliable/cleaner data.
• 5 12-bit high-speed analog channels sampling at 1kHz.
• 16 12-bit analog channels sampling at 312Hz. Customizable to 0-1V, 0-5V, 0-10V, and 0-20V inputs. Expandable to over 200 channels.
• 4-frequency channels mag/TTL.
• Input for 2-channel quadrature encoder or additional TTL frequency channel.
• 16 K-type thermocouple channels.
• 16 T-type thermocouple channels.
• 10 pressure channels with varying ranges.
• Modular design allows for addition of analog, thermocouple, pressure or frequency channels.
Operator’s Console
The SuperFlow operator’s control system provides the operator with the ability to effectively and safely test engines on all our dyno test cells:
• Electronic throttle controller: Allows for precise throttle blade positioning for calibration and steady state runs.
• Automated testing: This feature allows for complex testing such as durability simulations from race engine data or driving cycles. Programming of custom and/or interactive acceleration runs or steady state runs is also possible.
• Safety limits: Limits can be linked to measured channels in order to warn or shut down the engine in the event the data falls outside the set limits..
• Oil and water temperatures are separately controlled at the console by the operator via an adjustable Yokogawa process controller. The water heat exchangers can be readily modified to duplicate the pressure drop across the vehicle radiator. This information is invaluable prior to vehicle installation.
• Compressed regulated air is provided inside the cell and regulated from outside the cell for applications such as turbo waste gate control.
Sensors and Measurements
Following is a list of some of our sensors and data acquisition capabilities. All these channels are read and logged through the SuperFlow data acquisition system:
• Engine water flow measurement –Magnetic flow meter 0-200gpm
• Oil flow measurement – Positive displacement meter 0-15gpm
• Oil level measurement for dry sump tank
• Blow-by measurement –Rotameter and edge orifice meter 0-10cfm
• Portable water flow measurement – Magnetic flowmeter for 0-200gpm and 0-15 gpm used for remote flow measurements such as water through an intercooler system.
• Air/Fuel ratio measurement –NTK wide band O2 sensor. We can support up to 10 individual O2 sensors
• Temperatures – Thermocouples for exhaust temps, intake air, oil, water and open channels for any custom application.
• Pressures – Pressure transducers of various ranges for fuel, oil, water, scavenge, crankcase, manifold, exhaust and open channels for any custom application. Includes gage, absolute and differential pressures.
